Pilot, builder, organization leader
Charlie Terry competed in every Formula V air race ever held over the active history of the Formula V class (from 1977 through 1999), initially in the race plane he built and owned, #14 “Beetlebomb” and later as pilot of #77 “Blueberry,” #33 “Chasin’ Rainbows” as well as several other Formula V race planes. He was the 1985 National Champion pilot of the Formula V air racing class. He served as the President of the Formula V Air Racing Association from 1984-1988 and again in 1992-1996 and also served as the senior race pilot flight examiner for the Formula V class. He also piloted several different Formula 1 race planes on several occasions at the Reno and Cleveland Air Races during the 1980s and ‘90s.
