Driver, owner, builder
Poteet has 56 timed passes over 400 mph and 10 Hot Rod Magazine Trophies for fastest speed at Bonneville each year, both unprecedented. He holds seven SCTA Bonneville and three FIA world records and is a proud member of the 200, 300 and 400 MPH Club, the latter as an inaugural member. He bought his first land speed car in 2001, a 1932 flathead roadster that went 119 mph. Next was a 1969 Barracuda called Blowfish, setting a 255.412 mph record on its maiden trip to the salt. Poteet set records in each class he competed in with it, eventually posting a 307.339 mph mark. After Blowfish came the Poteet & Main streamliner EcoFire, capturing four-cylinder, small-displacement records in both SCTA and FIA. After walking away from a 2014 crash while attempting 475 mph, Poteet and his incredible crew rebuilt it in 2016 as the Speed Demon Racing Team Streamliner, establishing more FIA and SCTA records. In 2020 it became the fastest piston-powered car ever at 470.016 mph. Poteet’s pursuit of records continues.
