Powerboat driver, administrator
Over a 25-year career in Unlimited hydroplanes, David won six Driver High Points championships (2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012) and four National Championships. In all, he captured 18 Unlimited races and 11 poles. In a nine-year span at the helm of the Harvey Motorsports Unlimited boat, the team finished in the Top Five every year. In addition, he had over 250 victories in the Limited ranks and more than 500 heat wins. From 1988-91 he captured four straight National Championship Race victories in the 1.5-Litre Stock Class. He also won the 1990 Grand National Hydro Class National Championship Race. The only thing missing from his trophy case was an APBA Gold Cup; the six-time APBA Hall of Champions inductee finished second 12 times in 22 attempts. David broke into the Unlimited ranks in 1988 and was named Rookie of the Year. From 1996-98, David served as President of the American Power Boat Association. After retiring at the end of 2013, David spent two years as chairman of the H1 Unlimited Hydroplane Racing Series.
