Crewman, mechanic, curator, broadcaster
Often called “America’s gas man,” Myers is the son and nephew respectively of late NASCAR drivers Bobby and Billy Myers. Received the nickname “Chocolate” when he was 12 because of his dark complexion. Had a brief stock car driving career during the 1960s and eventually became a general mechanic and refueler for inductee Dale Earnhardt at Richard Childress Racing, taking part in six of RCR’s NASCAR Cup Series championships (1986, 1987, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994). Recognized as one of “The Flying Aces” that earned NASCAR’s Pit Crew of the Year honors from 1985 through 1988, Chocolate took part in 84 victories at RCR, including the team’s 1998 DAYTONA 500 win. Myers also refueled Kevin Harvick’s Chevrolet at Atlanta in March 2001 when the rookie scored his first career win, three weeks after Earnhardt’s death. Crewed for RCR until 2002, then became curator of the RCR museum in Welcome, NC. Myers currently co-hosts “Tradin’ Paint,” a daily, call-in radio program on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio and is active in various racing history projects.
