As a non-American, only the Spaniard’s record in the U.S. should count toward an induction vote, but what a record. From 2013-2021, Marquez started 12 MotoGPs here at Circuit of the Americas, Laguna Seca and Indianapolis, and won 11 of them. The only blemish being a DNF at the 2019 COTA race which he started from pole. Overall, Marquez has won 59 MotoGPs, third all-time behind legends Valentino Rossi and Giacomo Agostini. He’s captured six MotoGP World Championships (2013 — when he became the youngest to win a MotoGP and the youngest MotoGP world champion — 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019), one Moto2 World Championship (2012) and one 125cc World Championship (2010). In so doing he became one of four to have won world championships in three different categories, the others being Mike Hailwood, Rossi and Phil Read. Marquez holds the all-time records for most wins in a season (13 in 2014), most poles overall (62), most poles in a season (13 in 2014), most podiums in a season (18 in 2019) and most points in a season (2019).
