From 1977-1993 Reading, PA’s Dewald amassed one of the greatest records in the 100-year history of the American Power Boat Association (APBA). Dewald won his first APBA title at just 13 years of age when he won the A Stock Runabout outboard (marathon) national championship. In 1993 he switched to tunnel boats and won the national championship there as well. In all, Dewald won 22 APBA national championships and was high-point champion 18 times. Dewald was inducted into the APBA Hall of Champions 10 times (1980, 1983-6, 1988-91, 1993). He was critically injured in a collision at the 1995 Bud Light Gran Prix on the Allegheny River.
