“The Rocket” began his motorsports career with the Sports Car Club of America in Solo II where he earned six national championships. In 1986 he began competing in SCCA Solo I, earning national titles in 1986 and 1987. By the 1990s he began racing in SCCA Showroom Stock and became one of the drivers to beat, winning national titles in 1992 and 1995. Thereafter he began his professional racing career with prominent factory and privately owned teams such as Mazda, Porsche, Audi, Volvo, Fordahl Motorsports, Brumos and TPC Racing. Highlights include four SCCA World Challenge GT championships (2003, 2007, 2008, 2010), two Rolex 24 at DAYTONA class wins (2001 (2nd overall), 2006 (9th overall behind eight Daytona Prototypes)), the 1996 North American Touring Car Championship and more than 90 professional wins. More recently, Pobst has written a longtime column for SportsCar Magazine, appeared extensively in Motor Trend’s magazine and YouTube channel and been a television broadcaster for the SCCA Runoffs. He was inducted into the SCCA Hall of Fame in 2016.
