Historian, broadcaster
The world’s go-to expert on Indy 500 history and a walking encyclopedia of American motorsports, Davidson has been the Speedway’s full-time historian since 1998. He also holds the longevity record on the worldwide Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network (IMSRN), a guest shot with inductee Sid Collins in 1964 leading to a position that continues today, over half a century later. UK-born Davidson was the keeper of records for USAC for 30+ years. Along with appearances on every major network and assignments for ESPN, SPEED, Turner Broadcasting and several Indianapolis TV outlets, Davidson has hosted a popular call-in show on Indianapolis’ 1070 AM every May since 1971. His articles have appeared in Autoweek, Car and Driver, Motor Trend, Road & Track, The Indianapolis Star and more; he co-authored the acclaimed Autocourse Official History of the Indianapolis 500 (2006). Davidson was inducted into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame in 2010, Indiana Pioneer Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2013 and received the Sagamore of the Wabash Award, one of Indiana’s highest honors, in 2016.
