Founder, editor, publisher
Perhaps no one has done more to keep motorsports journalism alive and well in the United States over the past several decades and in so doing help grow the sport. Pfanner founded Southern California-based Pfanner Communications, Inc. (Est. 1979) and Racer Communications Inc. (Est. 1992), best known for publishing RACER, SportsCar and IndyCar Series magazines and providing automotive and motorsports content for Speed TV.com. In 2001, Pfanner sold the majority of Racer Communications to U.K.-based Haymarket Publishing. From then until the end of 2005, Pfanner served as President of the renamed company, Haymarket Worldwide. In 2012, Pfanner reacquired RACER magazine, RACER.com and Racer Special Projects from Haymarket with longtime partners Rob and Chris Dyson. The new company, Racer Media & Marketing, Inc., operates with Pfanner Communications and RACER Studio as an integrated media, marketing and branding company. In 2019 Racer Media and Marketing acquired Vintage Motorsport magazine and VintageMotorsport.com. Pfanner has moderated panels at the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) World Congress featuring global motorsport leaders on the subjects of relevance and sustainability.
