Is there anything more to say about Larry “Spiderman” McBride than he’s a 20-time Top Fuel Motorcycle champion who, at 268.38 mph, is the fastest and quickest (5.50 sec) Top Fuel motorcycle racer in the world? McBride began racing fuel bikes in the 1970s, mentored by fellow two-wheeled legend Elmer Trett. The nickname came at Indy in 1980 when the announcer commented on his signature saddle-crawling style, “This guy moves around on the bike like Spiderman.” Every T/F bike racer in the world has been chasing him since. He was first in the 5’s on October 31,, 1999 at the NHRA Baytown, TX event. In 2019, McBride made his famed 5.50 sec pass @ 264 MPH. In 2022, at 64(!), he upped the top speed ante to 268. His bike, built largely by brother Steve at their Cycle Specialists performance shop in Newport News, VA, is calculated to hit 100 MPH in 1.25 sec and generate 1,600 HP. Said 2022 inductee Terry Vance, “(Larry)’s been the standard and leader in Top Fuel Motorcycles for many years.”
