Off-road driver, track builder/owner, promoter
His first career was winning major off-road races, his second is staging them. During the 1970s, Feldkamp won two Baja 1000s (1975, 1977), three Baja 500s (1978, 1979, 1985) and two Mint 400s (1977, 1978). In the process, he won back-to-back High Desert Racing Association and SCORE championships (1977, 1978). Many of these accomplishments came when he and inductee Malcolm Smith teamed up in their revolutionary Bel-Ray Bullet, a state-of-the-art buggy, featuring a longer wheelbase Funco chassis with one of the first independent rear suspension arrangements for greater speed across desert washboards. In Baja, for example, Smith typically drove the first half of the race, Feldkamp the second. In the ‘80s, Feldkamp created Glen Helen Raceway, a world-class San Bernardino off-road racing facility designed by Ivan Stewart that hosts events such as the FIM U.S. Grand Prix of Motocross, AMA U.S. Motocross Nationals, Robby Gordon Off-Road World Championships and Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. Feldkamp was inducted into the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2016.
