Driver, race director
2018 inductee Bob Tullius describes him as the fastest qualifying-lap driver he has ever seen. The Philadelphia native won the 1987 IMSA Camel GT series championship and was series runner-up three years in a row (1989-90-91). A perennial Top 3 presence, Robinson scored 19 GTP wins and 56 podiums in just 8 seasons in Group 44 Jaguars, Holbert Porsches and Electramotive Nissans. Among his major wins were the 1987 Rolex 24 at DAYTONA and the 1989 12 Hours of Sebring. Robinson went to Le Mans four times, qualifying fourth and leading for 47 laps in 1990 before the Nissan he shared with Geoff Brabham and Derek Daly succumbed to a fuel leak. Robinson made five IndyCar starts in decidedly second-tier machinery in 1986 and 1987, with a 7th at Miami in 1986 and a 6th at Long Beach a year later. In four 1988 IROC appearances, Robinson had a second at Riverside. More recently, he has served as race director for Formula Atlantic, F2000, F1600 and the US Formula 4 championship.
