“Marvelous Merv” was one of the Northeast’s top Modified pilots on dirt and asphalt, capturing three of Modified’s biggest events: the 1970 Race of Champions at Langhorne, 1975 Permatex 200 at Daytona and consecutive victories in the NAPA Super DIRT Week race (1981, ’82). He also won major Modified events on the Watkins Glen and Daytona road courses. Treichler’s biggest triumphs came over Modified stars like Bobby Allison, Harry Gant, Geoff Bodine, Richie Evans and Jerry Cook. "After we won the big race at Syracuse in 1981,” Treichler told the Buffalo News, “I was surprised somewhat considering the level of competition and remember being more so after we won the next year.” The upstate New Yorker also won track titles at Ransomville (1974) and Lancaster (1970, ’71, ’72, ’74). He’s been inducted into the DIRT Motorsports, Eastern Motorsports Press, NY State Stock Car and Friends of Auto Racing halls of fame. Lancaster Speedway awards the Treichler Troyer Trophy in honor of cousins Merv and Roger, and Maynard Troyer, who between them won 13 track championships.
