“Duff is going to be the best of the Dailys,” Mona Daily told The New York Times in 1974. Sure she was biased, being Duff’s mom, but she also knew exactly what she was talking about, having been, along with her husband Del, a successful powerboat racer herself. By the end of that year, Duff had already won the 1972 Grand National Class World Championship and consecutive Super Stock national titles. Over the next 40+ years, Daily would continue to rack up wins and championships, including six Pro Stock World Championships (1989, 2000-04) six Grand National World Championships (1972, 1975-77, 1981-82), three Grand National High Points Championships (1975-76, 1987), four KRR National High Point Championships (1994, 2015-17), two KRR World Championships (2003-04), and four Super Stock National Championships (1973-74, 1976, 2004). In addition, Daily set numerous records, including the KRR ¼ mile and kilometer straightaway world records in 2016 at 152.93 and 149.87 mph, respectively. Daily is a 7-time Hall of Champions recipient, the sport’s highest honor, and 1978 Powerboat Magazine Driver of the Year.
