Official Nomination Bio

The two-time IMSA Goodrich Radial Challenge champion (1973, 1975) made a far greater impact as an administrator. Craw served as SCCA president 17 years (1983-2001), longer than any other chief executive. While there he implemented a series of groundbreaking measures. An industry-first $500,000 catastrophic insurance program for drivers, corner workers and over-the-wall crews led other sanctioning bodies to follow suit, benefitting tens of thousands of participants. His spec racer initiative was equally groundbreaking. Within SCCA alone, tens of thousands of drivers have been enabled to compete who might otherwise have been frozen out by rising costs. That concept, too, has been widely copied in various forms across other series, including NASCAR, IndyCar, Mazda MX-5 Cup and Spec Miata. During Craw’s tenure, SCCA more than doubled its membership, increased total revenues by over 500%, increased outside income six-fold and doubled member equity. Craw became president and CEO of ACCUS in 2005 and, in 2009, the first and only American elected president of the FIA Senate.
